Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer death for men and women combined, but it is preventable, treatable and beatable if caught at an early stage. During CRC Awareness Month in March, the American Cancer Society is training volunteers to go out and speak in the community about the importance of screening, risk factors, and ACS's 80% By 2018 initiative to increase screening rates to reduce incidence and mortality rates. No medical background is necessary and volunteers will receive a PowerPoint presentation and samples of materials that are available for speakers to distribute. Examples of speaking opportunities are: community health fairs, service club meetings, church groups, senior centers, etc. If you are interested in making a difference in your community, please join ACS and learn more about how you can get involved! Join Team Big Sunday at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life for Griffith Park Communities and Hollywood. The Relay For Life events bring hope, encouragement and services to those struggling with cancer, remembrance for those who have lost a loved one, and provides fundraising for the cure. Registration is free. Donations are optional. Come walk with the team!

The Jessica M. Berman Wonder Woman Walk for Breast Cancer is looking for 100+ volunteers to help
on Sunday, September 18th, 2016. Volunteer assignments include registration, water stations, expo, start/finish line and kids zone.
The Jessica M. Berman WONDER WOMAN WALK for Breast Cancer benefits Tower Cancer Research Foundation, which provides funding for
important and innovative breast cancer research and patient support services. The Walk celebrates breast cancer survivors and honors those who

Catch the rain when it hits with a free rain barrel from West Basin Municipal Water District (West Basin)! California has been in a statewide drought for five years, and likely a sixth. In response, West Basin is increasing public conservation and education by hosting no-cost rain barrel distribution events throughout the South Bay this fall season to qualified residents in the West Basin service area.
